Rihanna: This Years CFDA Fashion Icon Award Winner

CFDA announced last week that Rihanna is to be awarded the Fashion Icon Award at this years June 2nd event.  I have mixed feelings about this selection.  The CFDA says that they pick award winners based off of their influence on popular culture.  Yes, Riri is an icon and her style is widely talked about (anyone remember the angular bob she did a few years back - I know I do and I loved it), so why do I have mixed feelings?  See my photo debate below:

Why I don't agree:

Why I agree:

She is unmistakably beautiful and has a great body to match her looks.  I just feel like her fashion is all over the board.  She can be incredibly elegant in one moment and look like a bag lady the next.  She is edgy and seems willing to try anything which I give her credit for, but how can you be an icon when you have such a broad range of style?  What would her signature look be?  Past award winners seem to have a more distinct look to their style.

Think about 2012 winner Johnny Depp, you think of him, and you think of a bohemian with fedoras, scarves, unbuttoned shirts, etc.

2011, Lady Gaga, know for always being off the wall.  Clothes made of meat, crazy hair, huge sunglasses.  You name it and she's all over it.

2010, Iman. Classic style, put together, elegant even.

What do you think?  Do you agree with me?  or am I way off base?
